Police Officers' Charitable Aid Program

Mission

The Police Officers' Charitable Aid Program (POCAP) provides financial assistance to active Denver Police Officers and immediate members of their families during times of medical crisis, death, long term illness, or any other crisis. This program is funded largely through monthly city payroll deductions, but also though donations, and fundraising.  Since 1999 this program has assisted over 370 officers and their families who have experienced medical emergencies, accidents, injuries, house fires, on-going health issues, and funeral expenses.

POCAP operates under the guidance and direction of the Foundation's "B" Board of Directors.    The "B" Board is comprised of representatives of various groups within the Denver Police Department as well as members of the community in general. The Foundation's "B" Board sets the POCAP mission, priorities, activities and management of the program.  These Directors approve the offering and the amount for "emergency assistance" and "long term assistance."  In addition, the "B" Board administers the "Heal as You Feel" program, a nationally recognized program that assists terminally ill officers and their family members with support meetings, transportation, sporting events, house and yard work, funeral arrangements, and family counseling.
