Executive Director Biography
Jane Norton
Jane E. Norton, former Lt Governor for the State of Colorado, was named the first executive director for the Denver Police Foundation (DPF) February 1, 2007. The Denver Police Foundation was created to enhance public safety and law enforcement in the Denver community. The Foundation operates two distinct but complementary charitable programs. The Police Officers Charitable Aid Program supports individual officers and their families in times of crisis and the Public Safety Program (PSP) generates funds and develops programs to aid the Denver Police Department and to enhance both law enforcement and crime prevention in Denver.
The Denver Police Foundation has worked closely with the City to fund initiatives such as defibrillators, Chaplain's uniforms, domestic violence cameras, suicide prevention training support, and neighborhood crime-reducing strategies.
As Lieutenant Governor, Norton had oversight of the state's citizen disaster preparedness program, community service and volunteerism initiatives, mentoring programs, and adoption initiative. She also served as the statutorily named chair of the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs and was Colorado's delegate to the Aerospace States Association.
Prior to being elected Lt. Governor, Norton was executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment where she chaired the Bioterrorism Response Committee and served on the Columbine Victims Assistance Taskforce.
In October of 2006 she was invited by the White House to present at the "Summit on School Safety." Recently she was presented the Meritorious Service Award from the Colorado National Guard for her support of troops, their families and veterans.
Born and raised in Grand Junction, she is married to Mike Norton, former US Attorney of Colorado. She and Mike are members of Smoky Hill Vineyard Church, where they volunteer in the children's nursery. Jane serves on the Board of Trustees of the Space Foundation and the Denver Seminary. She is the mother of two grown children. She earned a Master of Science in Management degree from Regis University.
